May 11, 2015

Well, this is it.  This week was great.  I pretty much ignored the fact that I'm going home, and did what I'd do anyways.  It was great.  And then last night, I took some time and packed my belongings, and later today we're going to buy some last souvenirs, and then visit some of my favorite members, then I'm going to buy martabak and ice cream and have the best final dinner ever, and then tomorrow at 4 in the morning I'll get picked up at the house by a brother from church and my plane to Jakarta leaves at 6:15. It lands in Jakarta at 8:30.  Then I'll go the mission office, get interviewed, get all my stuff together and weighed, etc, the hope is to leave with Elder Barrus and do missionary work at 12 until 4ish, because we have a farewell dinner at 5 and then a fireside at 6, and after that we're leaving for the airport immediately.  It's going to be a crazy day.  Our group flies to Hong Kong then part ways heading to the states.  I’m with Elder Kyle until Seattle.  Well, I gotta get going.  But I love you all, and I can't wait to see you later!

May 4, 2015

Hello, everyone,
So....  We had a good week, and this next week is going to be the best week.  We're going to make it the best week.
The highlight was when we had a baptism for an 11 year old son of a new member.  His dad baptized him, and it was a really neat experience.
Because my life seems really boring from a non-Elder Heiner point of view, how about you just come by the house in 11 or 12 days and I'll answer all your questions.  Then you can just hear the cool stuff you're interested in and not just a bunch of boring writing.  I'm not lacking motivation to do missionary work, but writing this just seems kind of pointless because I'll be home so soon, and it would be so much faster/easier in person.  So have a great week!

We did some service out in the middle of nowhere.
It was great.
Pretty much the biggest spider I've ever seen.
It fell down from a tree and passed out (we think).
It is about as big as my hand all spread out.
I have a picture in comparison with my foot but for some
reason the computer won't let me send it.
Me on the volcano.

April 27, 2015

So, first things first, sorry for no pictures.  We went to Tomohon to see the volcano and the statues of Christ's walk with the cross, and while we were there, it rained on us.  So my camera is at home trying to dry out.  I'll try to do better next week.
Things in Manado are great.  I like being here, and we're seeing a lot of success, so that's nice.  People here are just so nice.
We've been teaching an 11 year old the past few weeks, and he's great.  The Sisters just baptized his parents, but because he's 11, he doesn't really want to talk to girls.  So we're teaching him, and he's planning to get baptized this Saturday.  So that's been fun.  We also had 2 investigators come to church yesterday, they live in a city called Bitung, it's about an hour away.  There's a member who takes us out there once a week.  There's 4 people in the house, and the mom/sister is a member but works in Malaysia, so she wanted us to teach her kids and mom and brother, so that's what we're doing.  And they finally came to church, which was great.  I love it when people finally make it to church.
I don't know what else to write about because it's just the same as last week, and the week before, and the week before.  Now things happen, but for the most part, it's just the same as before, just with different names and faces.
Thanks for the support!  I'll try to send pictures next week because I know that's the only reason you'd ever read this.  I'm not the most exciting of writers.

April 20, 2015

Things here are good.  We're teaching, and working, and it's great.  We went to Surabaya on Tuesday until Wednesday, so that was nice.  It's nice to see missionaries that I've never met before.  The new ones have such great faith, it's so cool.  Sometimes I wish we were closer to some other missionaries, but that's the price of living in paradise, I guess.  We were busy today cleaning our backyard and burning the plant stuff.
Until later,  Elder Heiner
PDL in Surabaya.
Sorry not to have more pictures today.  If you hold on a few more
weeks, I have about 2000 or so we can look at.

April 13, 2015

Dear all y'all,
So, this week was a week like any other.  We did work every day, no one got sick, no one got mail, no one got baptized, no one completely rejected us.  It was pretty normal.  (Please don't think that I'm begging for mail.)  We did get to watch conference, rounding out my 2 years of only hearing conference in Indonesian.  Maybe I'll get to be a translator at the next conference, that'd be kind of fun.
This coming week should be good.  We're going to Surabaya tomorrow, and we'll come back on the day after.  There's PLD, so that will be fun.  The last one before I go home...  All sort of these "last" whatever keep happening, and I don't like it.
Anyways, it’s been good, Love you!

April 6, 2015

Hello everyone,
This week has been really typical.  No one came to visit, and we taught a bunch of people, which was fun.  And I went on splits with Elder Campbell and then Elder Honda, and it was great.  They're both great Elders who are making good progress and becoming better.  I am happy to have worked with them.
The Sisters had a baptism this week, and that was pretty great.  I always like seeing that, it helps everyone to work harder, and helps the members to see that things are moving along.  It was the 6th in our branch this year, which is great!  It's been a great year.
When President Donald was here last week, he went to a couple of lessons with us.  And when we got out of one of them, we walked up some stairs to the road, and there was a car, and its front tire popped right there in front of us.  So President Donald and I swapped it with the spare, and Elder Sinaga talked to the guy, he's 18 and a senior in high school, and we taught him immediately, and we've been there 3 more times since, and that's where we're headed later tonight, so it's been really great.  He's a great investigator, and he would have come to church last week, but there was Easter, which is a really traditionalized holiday here.
Things are still nice here, it's pretty hot, and not too rainy, and I'm still healthy.  Life is good.

March 30, 2015

Hello, everyone.  This week has been pretty good, it seems like it was pretty quick, too.  It was a little different because President Donald and Elder Barrus and Elder Wintolo came up for a visit.  It was nice to have some change.  I really enjoyed that.  Elder Barrus is the only person that came to both my mission birthdays.  That was also good, my birthday.  We didn't really do anything special, just ate some cake and then got eggs and flour thrown all over me.  So that was exciting.
On Thursday, I had to sign up for BYU classes, which went surprisingly well, considering that I hadn't researched anything.  I'm in some classes now, so if all else fails, I know what I'll be doing on the 31st of August.  It always surprises me to think that I'm going back to America fairly soon...  Not worth thinking about.
Other than the visit from President and the AP's, I don't think anything of particular mention happened.  I never really remember what goes on, week to week, because it's all so similar every week.  Or maybe I just forget.  Oh well.  It's a good thing we don't get that much time to email, otherwise you'd just get a bunch of rambling like this every week.  Have a great week!

PS this computer is not able to attach my pictures.  It says that it's trying, but then it says attachment failed, so you're just going to have to wait...  Sorry.
